Winnie-the-Pooh is back
September 4, 2009
After an 81 year break Winnie-the-Pooh is set to make a return to Hundred Acre Wood.
Writer David Benedictus has taken up where A.A. Milne left off with an authorised set of stories which will follow the ongoing adventures of Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore and Tigger.
The author says that he didn’t take the project lightly and is well aware of the risks of getting the job wrong. Benedictus has immersed himself in Milne’s life by reading everything he wrote whilst he was assistant editor at Punch magazine and taking walks through Ashdown Forest, the original Hundred Acre Wood.
The Trustees of the Pooh Properties who look after A.A. Milne’s estate said earlier this year that they thought Benedictus and illustrator Mark Burgess had captured the spirit of the original stories. Benedictus said that the approval was an honour.
Head of marketing and brands at Egmont Publishing, Martyn Luke said that the release of the new Pooh stories was their biggest event this year adding that they had been careful to keep the stories faithful to the originals.
Expectations are that the new set of stories will see Christopher Robin returning from the boarding school he left for at the end of The House at Pooh Corner to be reunited with the bear of very little brain and his friends for more adventures in Hundred Acre Wood.
Return to Hundred Acre Wood lands on shelves on October 5.
