Website offers cash for Tony Blair’s arrest
January 28, 2010
A website which was launched two days ago to encourage a member of the public to place former Prime Minister Tony Blair under citizen’s arrest has already raised over £9,000 to go towards rewarding that person. The site was set up by political activist George Monbiot and is called Arrest Blair. Mr. Monbiot says that he has set up the site in order to show that people should not move on from the issue of the Iraq war as Tony Blair has requested. He says that Mr. Blair’s crimes against peace should not be allowed to go unpunished and that mass murderers should not simply be allowed to get on with things.
Mr. Blair is due to face the Chilcott inquiry tomorrow where he will be asked questions about his involvement in the Iraq war. Mr. Monbiot says that he wants whoever decides to arrest Mr. Blair to do so by charging him with launching an unprovoked attack on Iraq. He then wants them to ask Mr. Blair to accompany them to a police station and answer this charge.
Visitors to the Arrest Blair site will be told how to go about making a citizen’s arrest. They are also told that no harm can come to Mr. Blair and that the arrest should be made calmly whilst resting one hand on his shoulder or under his elbow. There is also advice on how to deal with the police once the arrest has been made. If anyone does arrest Mr. Blair they will have to be able to prove it in order to collect their share of the money raised by the website.
