Tiger Woods allegedly buys the silence of his mistress

December 4, 2009

Speculation about Tiger Woods and his extra-marital relationships took another turn yesterday when one of his alleged mistresses, Rachel Uchitel cancelled a scheduled press conference. She was due to make a statement to the press with her lawyer but backed out at the last minute fuelling speculation that she had been offered one million dollars to keep quiet. Although Uchitel initially denied accusations that she had been seeing Woods reports have surfaced that just hours before she was supposed to speak to the press she had been on the phone with Woods and his lawyers.

The world’s press has been fascinated by the revelations about Woods’ private life since he crashed his car at 2AM after allegedly fighting with his wife, Elin. Two other women have since become embroiled in the controversy and claim that they too have been romantically involved with the golfer in the past. Kalika Moquin, a night club marketing manager and Jaimee Grubbs, a cocktail waitress both claim to be able to prove the affairs with text messages and voicemail messages sent to them by Woods.

Although Woods has given very few details he has announced that he wanted to apologise to his family for personal sins and transgressions. Although major sponsors such as Nike and Gillette have so far stuck by the world’s richest golfer it is thought that morality clauses in their contracts could see the end of a number of lucrative deals. Woods also stands to lose $300 million if Elin leaves him because of an alleged pre-nuptial agreement.
