Tesco refuses to sell spoon to a customer
October 2, 2009
Tesco’s new Think 25 scheme that has been put into place to prevent underage shoppers from buying certain goods came into question recently when a girl was asked for proof of age whilst trying to buy a packet of spoons.
Emma Shepherd was refused the spoons by a shop assistant at a Worcestershire branch of the supermarket unless she could prove her age. Emma who is twenty-one-years-old was buying around £70.00 worth of goods from the store when the assistant held up the packet of teaspoons and asked her if she was old enough to buy them. Because Emma did not have any identification on her she said she could not walk away with the spoons and even broke her eggs because she threw them into her basket in outrage. She says that she even considered asking the Tesco employee to excuse her whilst she went on a rampage with the 57 pence bargain packet of cutlery.
A spokesperson for Tesco has since apologized for the lack of common sense in one of its employees and explained that the Think 25 scheme is meant to prevent underage shoppers from buying certain goods such as knives and alcohol.
