January 26, 2010
As Tesco increases its interest the home entertainment market it has been revealed that the supermarket giant now intends to produce its own movies. The first to hit the shelves will be a collaboration with best selling author Jackie Collins. Already in production in France the film is due to be on the shelves by May and is an adaptation of the thriller Paris Connections. Tesco plans to turn more best selling novels into films and is said to already be in talks with other well know authors like Philip Pullman, Jacqueline Wilson and Judy Blume.
Tesco has joined forces with Amber Entertainment in order to turn the books into films. The retailer has agreed to take a back-seat as far as creative content is concerned and will concentrate on sales and marketing of the finished products. Initially the films will only be available through Tesco outlets. Jackie Collins, who has another three books in her Connections series slated for production said that she was extremely excited about having her books turned into DVDs and said that she thought her readers would be just as keen on the idea. She said that her fans would now be able to get their hands on something exclusive and innovative.
Tesco says that it would like to expand the film making process to involve its customers. It now intends to ask cast members to write blogs about the making of the films as well as run competitions for customers to be taken down to the sets and locations to be part of the process.
