Susan Boyle is most pre-ordered artist in Amazon history
November 20, 2009
Online retailer Amazon have just announced that Susan Boyle’s new album ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ has become its most pre-ordered album around the world ever. Boyle’s album is to be released on 23rd November and the number of pre-orders proves that Boyle has the ability to capture the hearts and imaginations of people around the world according to chairman of Columbia Records, Steve Barnett.
Susan Boyle shot to fame after she appeared on the talent show Britain’s Got Talent. She became an internet phenomenon after her performance of the song ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from the musical Les Miserables. It has not all been plain sailing for the Scottish church worker and she was admitted to the Priory to be treated for exhaustion soon after her sudden rise to stardom.
Head of music buying at Amazon.co.uk, Julian Monaghan said that Boyle’s achievement of securing more pre-order sales than any other artist in the company’s history was astonishing considering that less than a year ago hardly anyone was aware of her vocal talents. He echoed Barnett’s view that the achievement was very much to do with her ability to capture the hearts of people around the globe.
Amongst her many fans Boyle can include actress Demi Moore and singer Elaine Paige. Joining Boyle in the list of most pre-ordered albums ever are two Japanese acts who take the second and third spot, then Norah Jones with her album ‘Not Too Late’ released in 2007 and Take That who take fifth place with their greatest hits collection ‘Never Forget’ launched in 2008.
