Simon Cowell named highest male earner on American television

Forbes has named Britain’s Simon Cowell as the highest earning man on American television. The creator of America’s Got Talent and judge on American Idol it is estimated that he has earned a pre-tax figure in the region of $75 million this year. Cowell has helped to make American Idol the most viewed television show in the U.S. for the past seven years and also runs his own record label. Coming in second to Cowell in the list of the highest earners is Donald Trump. He has many other ventures but is best known to viewers as host of The Apprentice. It is estimated that his pre-tax earnings hit $50 million between June 2008 and June 2009. Forbes.com has given third place to Ryan Seacrest. The thirty-four year old is also a host on American Idol and has a morning radio show, is a television host and has also developed Keeping Up With The Kardashians, a television reality show. It is estimated that he has earned $38 million in the past year.

Simon Cowell is joined in the top-ten by fellow Brit, Hugh Laurie who plays the much loved, if slightly cantankerous House in the hit show of the same name. Laurie is estimated to have earned $10 million over the past year and his earnings have secured ninth place in the Forbes list. Other television stars to make the top ten are Charlie Sheen, who got fourth place with earnings of $21 million and comedian Steve Carrel who is fifth with earnings of $20 million.
