Rumours of royal engagement at Christmas

December 8, 2009

Speculation about an imminent royal wedding is rife as Prince William spearheads new moves by the palace to curb press intrusion. It is well known that the Prince blames the paparazzi for the death of his mother and detests photographers who attempt to document his every move. It is believed that in an effort to prevent the same pressure that was placed on his parents he has employed a team of lawyers to look into human rights laws which could prevent the press from intruding into his and Kate Middleton’s private lives.

The Queen has also become embroiled in the argument to place a ban on long lenses intruding into the royal family’s every move causing bookmakers William Hill to cut odds of a royal engagement at Christmas from 12/1 to 6/1. A spokesman for William Hill, Rupert Adams said that many customers were interpreting the Queen’s involvement with the paparazzi argument as a sign that something is going to happen soon, most likely a royal engagement.

However sources close to William and Kate say that they will want to spend more time working out the basics of how they are going to manage a marriage before they tie the knot. Prince Charles’s senior media manager, Paddy Harverson said that the royals realised that the public was interested in what they got up to but simply wanted less intrusion when they were away from their royal duties. They do not feel it is fair to have cameras follow them wherever they go, especially when out with friends or involved in private activities.
