Royal Mail condemned in new eBay survey

November 1, 2010

In a new eBay survey, over 80 per cent of internet-based companies have criticised Britain’s primary postal service, Royal Mail.

The findings revealed that many businesses believe the postal service is hindering their development. Online firms are now demanding that the Royal Mail drastically improve such services as weekend availability and notification of when parcels will arrive.

Respondents from over 600 online shops were polled by eBay for the information. Of these 600, more than 80 per cent felt the Royal Mail could improve across the board in its services including more flexible delivery times, longer post office operating hours and more locations for evening collections.

An eBay spokesman said that the popular online market place conducted the service following a slew of complaints over the Royal Mail’s services. Recently, it was revealed by Google UK that £100bn of the UK economy is rendered from internet retail, but while the government pledges improvements to the national postal service, criticism from local businesses is aimed at expediting the process.

The news comes just as postal carriers throughout the country gear up for the busy holiday season. It was just revealed that an expected £17.4bn will be spent during the upcoming fourth quarter as Britons’ disposal income goes up from last year and the hectic Christmas season draws closer.

Really? Our ‘disposal income’ is up from last year? Well, in that case I shall buy everyone a trash can for Christmas!
