Rapist escapes from court room by leaping out of the dock

October 23, 2009

A man convicted of raping a woman has escaped the courtroom he was being tried in by jumping out of the dock and fleeing from the building. 26-year-old Byron Toner from Liverpool made his escape just minutes after the guilty verdict was delivered. Toner is guilty of having subjected a 19-year-old woman to a vicious five-hour attack which resulted in her sustaining fifty-eight separate injuries. The trial had been going on for two weeks.

Judge Adrian Lyon found toner guilty and demanded he be remanded in custody. However the security guard who was waiting to escort the rapist to his cell was not quick enough to stop him leaping from the dock, running out of the court room and escaping via the fire escape in a taxi.

Merseyside Police would be very grateful for any information on the whereabouts of Byron Toner but warn people to be careful pointing out that he has been convicted of violent assault and rape.

Police say that the last reports of his whereabouts were from the taxi driver who says he drove him to the Walton area of Liverpool. Merseyside Police urge anyone with any information to contact them on 0151 777 4065. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 088 555 111.
