Prince William a hit down under

January 22, 2010

Prince William’s visit to New Zealand and Australia has come to an end but the impression he has made on both countries has been little short of sensational. Wherever he went girls were clamoring for his attention and even the Labour Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd has decided it might be wise to put off a referendum on abolishing the monarchy. William seemed to be coping exceptionally well with all the attention as he returned kisses and posed for photographs with adoring fans. One twenty-one-year-old said that she didn’t mind the fact that William might be thinning slightly on top because he had beautiful soft lips.

In a speech delivered in Melbourne to celebrate Australia Day the prince joked about all the female attention he was getting by saying that he was following a tradition established by his father. He said that Prince Charles still fondly remembers the time when he was kissed by a model when he was on a Perth beach back in 1979. Before his arrival Republicans attacked the move to allow a foreigner to give an address on Australia Day. But as William gave his speech at Government House praising the Australian spirit and joking about his brother Harry’s constant banging on about what a fabulous time he had when he was in the country for his year off, as well as the profound impression the country and its people had made on his mother, even the most fervent of anti-monarchists must have felt slightly disarmed.
