Pitchup.com targets the U.K.’s happy campers
September 11, 2009
A new U.K. website called Pitchup.com aims to help the surging amount of people who are choosing a camping or caravanning holiday at home rather than travelling abroad, find a holiday to suite all their needs. Statistics released recently show that those deciding to go camping or caravanning in the U.K. during the first half of the year were up 27% on the same period in 2008. A recent YouGov poll found that next year 54% of people in the U.K intend to stay in the U.K. for their main holiday.
Pitchup.com lists over 5,000 camping and caravanning sites across the U.K. and these sites are in a wide range of locations such as beaches, national parks and close to many of the U.K.’s annual music festivals.
The site is easy to use and allows very specific and detailed searches to provide customers with precisely the holiday they want. Managing Director, Dan Yates says that the site is meant to be as accessible as possible to families, people going away with friends or those traveling on their own. He also says that it encourages feed back from holiday makers so that the site can stay a current as possible.
A variety of factors have led people to look for alternative ways to holiday. The recession has caused people to be a little more wary of how they spend their money, a strong Euro has meant a contraction of spending power abroad and the growing wish to contribute to sustainable travel have all helped the camping market to grow. Next year may well be the year of the glamper or glamour camper.
