New iPhone application offensive to women

October 14, 2009

PepsiCo has come under fire for a new application its drinks brand Amp has released for the iPhone. Amp Up Before You Score is an application designed to help men who are looking to score with women get coaching on how to do so depending on what type of woman they are targeting. The application covers twenty-four different types such as rebound girl, punk rock girl and sorority girl.

Amp is a caffeine based energy drink and has a reputation for producing risky advertising. The new iPhone application will provide users with chat up lines and information that Amp thinks might be useful when targeting a chosen type. It then encourages users who have been successful in scoring because of the application to post up details about the conquest on social networking sites like Twitter and Google.

Some experts in the drink industry say that complaints about the application are exactly what PepsiCo wants. Editor and publisher of Beverage Digest, John Sicher points out that the method of advertising may be a little offensive to some but that it does have everybody talking.

Critics say that the application is offensive and is just another way for men to objectify women. However PepsiCo says that it apologises if the application offends anybody but says that it is supposed to be an illustration of how some men will go to any lengths just to get the attention of a woman.
