Muppets have their eyes on Christmas number one
December 9, 2009
Record label EMI has announced plans to release The Muppet’s version of the Queen classic Bohemian Rhapsody in a bid to secure the coveted number one spot in the singles charts this Christmas. EMI have made the decision after the version was viewed a massive nine million times on the website YouTube.
Rupert Adams from the bookmaker William Hill has said that although the Muppets are likely to do well at Christmas that odds on them beating the winner of ITV’s X Factor to number one were slim. For the past four years X Factor winners have managed to scoop the prize and it is unlikely that this Christmas will be any different. Adams went on to point out that the Muppets would be in with a good chance were it not for the competition from the winner of Simon Cowell’s extremely popular show.
Another act vying for the number one slot this Christmas is Rage Against The Machine. Their song Killing In The Name is currently the subject of internet campaigns that want to make sure it beats the X Factor winner. The song is filled with expletives and fans would like to see it knock whichever song is chosen for Simon Cowell’s act out of the running. Fans have set up a Facebook page urging the public to buy the single. Both Rage Against The Machine and the X Factor winner will be released on the Sony label. X Factor is currently the William Hill favourite at 8/1 and The Muppets are currently sitting at 25/1.
