Miss England says that too few appreciate armed forces
November 9, 2009
After this year’s original Miss England felt it prudent to quit the Miss World competition following an alleged fight in a nightclub in Manchester, L/Cpl Hodge was called up as a replacement. Lance Corporal Katrina Hodge who serves with the Royal Anglican Regiment has already expressed a wish to join up with fellow soldiers in Afghanistan after her job representing her country as Miss England comes to an end. The 22-year-old who is also known as Combat Barbie by her colleagues in the armed forces has already spent time in Iraq and was elevated from position as runner up in the Miss England competition to crown-wearer when twenty-one-year-old Rachel Christie dropped out of the job.
L/Cpl Hodge has already had the chance to meet with some of the other contestants in the Miss World competition and will be attending a charity event in London this evening. She says that she hopes her natural beauty will be appreciated in the competition and that it is very quickly forgotten when you are being asked to behave like a soldier. She says that when she is on patrol she will not be wearing any makeup and has here hair scraped back.
L/Cpl Hodge said that all those serving or who had served in Afghanistan were in the forefront of her mind as she observed the two-minute silence alongside other Miss World competitors on Sunday. She also said that she believed that too few people in this country understood or appreciated its armed forces to the extent they deserve.
