Mike Tyson arrested after fight with photographer
November 13, 2009
Mike Tyson has been held by the Los Angeles Police Department following a fracas with a photographer at Los Angeles Airport. The former heavyweight boxing champion was passing through the airport on his way to Las Vegas when he allegedly punched a photographer in the head. The boxer was travelling from Europe and was in transit with both his wife and their new baby when the incident occurred.
Richard Schonfeld, Mr. Tyson’s attorney said that there was absolutely no proof that his client had done anything wrong and said that he looked forward to clearing his client’s name. A family spokesman added that Mr. Tyson had been acting purely out of self defense and that he merely wanted to protect his wife and ten-month-old child. He continued by saying that the photographer in question had been acting in an overly aggressive manner.
Sergeant Jim Holcomb of the LAPD said that the incident occurred at the United Airlines terminal at Los Angeles airport and that allegedly Mr. Tyson hit the photographer in the head with one of his hands. The photographer then allegedly fell to the floor. Following the kerfuffle the photographer was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for a cut to the forehead.
Mr. Tyson was then arrested at the scene and taken to a police station close to the airport. He was then held at the station on a $20,000 bail. Sergeant Holcomb has said that both the photographer and Mr. Tyson will now pursue separate accusations of misdemeanour battery.
