Michael Jackson to be buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery
August 20, 2009
A spokesperson for the family of the late Michael Jackson has revealed that the pop icon will be buried on August 29 in a private ceremony held in Los Angeles. That date would have been Jackson’s 51st birthday.
According to a TMZ report, the singer will be buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, in the Great Mausoleum, where other celebrities have also been interred – including Nat King Cole, Clark Gable and Jean Harlow. The ceremony, to be held at 10:00am, will be private, and limited to only family and close friends.
There had been reported disagreements among Jackson family members about the burial location, with Jermaine Jackson, Michael’s brother, in favor of creating a memorial at the star’s former Neverland Ranch, in the style of Elvis Presley’s Graceland.
Jackson left Neverland in 2005, after he was acquitted of child-molestation charges following a raid on the ranch. He never returned, and some family members were opposed to the idea of burial at Neverland for that reason.
The cause of Jackson’s death, on June 25, is still the subject of a police investigation.
