Dixons

Dixons is Europe’s largest retailer of consumer electronics with currently over 1,250 outlets placed in the UK, Scandinavia, Portugal, Ireland, Spain and Hungary. The reason for the company’s rapid growth from originally being a single portrait studio was due in main to the Chairman Stanley Kalms.

He was the first to spot the potential of the photographic industry as far back as the1950’s and the consumer electronic market in the 1970’s. He decided to merge both these fast growing market sectors and was credited with bringing to Britain the concept of the superstore. In 1996 Stanley Kalms was knighted for services to the electrical retailing.
