Butlins

Butlins Holiday Camps were the brainchild of Billy Butlin, a Canadian fair worker who came up with the idea of offering reasonably priced holidays to the public at a time when going abroad was out of the question for most people. The first holiday camp was opened at Skegness in 1936 and proved an instant success with the public.

Other camps soon followed and they became famous in the United Kingdom with The Good Morning Campers tunes played in the mornings to wake up the holidaymakers to such favourites as the knobby knee competitions. Campers were taken care of by the famous Redcoats.
