Many in the U.K. would work from home

A recent survey commissioned by Orange has shown that many people would be happy to make sacrifices if it meant that they could work from home or a location of their choice.

16% of a poll of 3,281 office workers said they would take a pay cut and 42% said they would be happy to do away with the company car. 27% said they would give up their seniority within the company and a quarter said that they wouldn’t mind giving up on job progression.

The survey also showed that many people would move away from their current work locations if they could. Nearly half of those polled said that they were living in their present locations because of their jobs. 26% said that they would move to be near friends and family.

The research also showed that businesses in the U.K. could save on transport costs by as much as £32 billion per year by letting people stay at home.

Director for corporate marketing at Orange, Robert Ainger said: “Setting up an employee to work from home needn’t involve significant investment, just the willingness to give them the tools they need to get the job done. Rather than waiting for the current economic climate to improve, savvy businesses will act now to reap the rewards offered by flexible working.”
