As the UK government begins to cut back on programmes in the wake of the global recession, more people have begun to turn towards get-rich schemes across the country.
Many are looking to follow in the footsteps of Texan Joan Ginther, who has won the US lottery over four times, earning a total of £14m. The two main lotteries available for Britons to test their luck are the National Lottery, more commonly called the lotto, or the Euro Lottery. A new ASAP website has been set-up to help UK residents learn the ins and outs of playing the lottery. lotteries.org.uk provides comprehensive information and background to help residents make the choice of a lifetime.
For the British National Lottery, players are asked to select six numbers with the aim of scoring the main jackpot, which usually amounts to millions of pounds. Run by Camelot, the National Lottery is drawn each Wednesday and Saturday nights. The drawing is broadcast on live TV throughout the country, and then numbers are published the following day in the national newspapers. The British lottery is Europe’s most cost effective lotto and currently has raised more than £24 billion for charitable causes.
As well as the National Lottery, Camelot offers thunderball games and scratch cards, but there is no sure way to ensure a winning series of numbers. Camelot is also the sponsor of the Euro Lottery, which can be played by all of Europe. The Euro Lottery is twice the price as the National Lottery, but likewise the prize is typically twice as high, often reaching into the tens of millions in pounds.
