Keisha not Amelle to quit the Sugarbabes
September 22, 2009
Following weeks of speculation that Amelle Berrabah was to quit the Sugarbabes it has now been announced that it will be Keisha Buchanan, the last remaining original member of the band who will be leaving to pursue a solo career. Speculation has been rife that Berrabah was set to quit amid reports of fighting between band members. She also failed to turn up to a concert at London’s Movida nightclub recently adding fuel to the fire. Original reports said that Amelle had disappeared after a fight with Keisha but the band denied this saying she had gone to see a friend who had been in a bad accident.
Buchanan has been with the band since it was launched eleven years ago. The original line up of the Sugarbabes included Mutya Buena, who was replaced in 2005 by Amelle Berrabah, and Siobhan Donaghy who left the band in 2001 to be replaced by Heidi Range. The newest member of the band will now be Jade Ewan who was a singer in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Keisha has said that there has been no fighting between band members and that she has always supported and been supported by the other members. She said that the decision to move on was not hers and that although she felt nervous she also felt very excited about the new chapter in her life.
Keisha will still be represented by the band’s label Island Records. The new line up will release their seventh studio album on November 23rd entitled Sweet 7.
