John Terry’s Captaincy to be Decided by End of Week

February 3, 2010

The captain of England’s national football team, John Terry, has finds himself in a mess and stands the chance of losing his captaincy by the end of the week. All of this comes after the English footballer was accused in a tabloid of having an affair with Vanessa Perroncel, a French model and actress. The model is the ex- of Wayne Bridge, who is one of Terry’s friends and a former Chelsea teammate.

Terry married Toni Poole in June 2007, and the couple has had 2 children. Bridge and Perroncel had a child in 2006, but separated shortly after. It’s been rumored that Terry and Perroncel got pregnant, and he paid for an abortion. So it’s not surprising that he got a super injunction put into place by a high court to keep the newspaper from publishing details about the affair. What’s surprising is that the injunction was lifted only one week later.

As consequence, whether Terry will continue serving as captain of England is uncertain, but the English Football Association is leaving the decision in the hands of Fabio Capello, the team’s manager. A spokesman for the sports watchdog said that Lord Triesman, the chairman, and Ian Watmore, the chief executive, both back Capello’s decision. They believe that he will make a good judgment using the experience he has gained by being a football manager for many years.

Capello has said that he is up to date about the Terry scandal, and it’s understood that the two are set to meet about the issue this week. It’s even possible that Capello will make his decision by the end of the week.
