Jeremy Clarkson in manure protest
September 18, 2009
In a protest against Jeremy Clarkson’s attitude to climate change a group of protesters have dumped six bags of manure in the driveway of his Oxfordshire home and erected a banner above it saying This Is What You’re Landing Us In. The protesters are members of environmental group Climate Rush.
The seven women, all dressed as suffragettes claimed that they were targeting the host of Top Gear because of his dismissive attitude to global warming and because he had recently driven to the Arctic, a drive the protesters claim that will have released 1.7 tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere. The protesters arrived at the gates of Clarkson’s £2 million mansion in a van powered by old chip fat.
Jeremy Clarkson and the green community are well known for not seeing eye to eye. In his newspaper articles Clarkson has often been blasé about global warming more often than not turning it into a joke. He recently gave his support to David Bellamy who claims that any warming of the earth is not the result of man’s pollution of the atmosphere.
Tamsin Omond, one of the Climate Rush group at Clarkson’s home said that she like Jeremy Clarkson and she liked fast cars but what she did not like was a possible future where nobody will have the kind of choices that Jeremy Clarkson has at the moment. She went on to say that if we continue to burn fossil fuels and release carbon into the atmosphere then in just a few years people will have rather different priorities than how to build a bigger car engine.
