Humiliated Wigan players to reimburse fans

November 24, 2009

Embarrassed members of the Wigan Athletic football team who lost to Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend by 9 goals to 1 have said that they will personally reimburse every fan who bought a ticket for the game. Mario Melchiot who was playing in defence during Sunday’s rout said on behalf of the team that they wanted to make the gesture as a way of apologising for their performance. He said that the team were professionals and as such were extremely embarrassed about the way in which they had played. He went on to point out that the team had no other option than to move forward, get back into training and concentrate on next weekend’s game against Sunderland.

Although the 9-1 defeat is the second worst in the history of the Premier League the owner of Wigan Athletic, Dave Whelan said that the clubs manager, Roberto Martinez was safe in his job. He went on to say that he was one-hundred percent certain that Martinez would be able to get Wigan’s players back into form and that he knew that Wigan’s fans were also confident in the manager’s ability.

Supporters who purchased tickets for the game from the DW Stadium should get in contact with the ticket office either by phoning them or going there in person. Those who get through by phone should receive a refund by post within two weeks. All fans wishing to obtain money back will have to apply on or before Friday 4th December to be eligible.
