Golfer sues club after slipping in the shower

A seventy-two-year-old golfer is suing his golf club after he fell over in the shower. Anthony Avery is asking for up to £50,000 in damages after he claimed the fall meant that he would not be able to play the sport anymore. Avery is claiming that Rye Golf Club in East Sussex had not taken sufficient precautions to ensure that the clubs showers were a bit less slippery. It took Mr. Avery two weeks to report his slip to the club’s staff and did not seek immediate medical attention after he fell over. In a statement Avery admitted that people might suggest that he is a doddery old fool but went on to point out that not being able to play golf had ruined his life.

Solicitor for Rye Golf Club, Simon King said that people slipping over in showers every now and again was unavoidable due to the fact that water naturally creates a slippery surface. He went on to point out that people also tended to use soap and shampoo when taking a shower and that these products could add to the slipperiness of a shower floor.

President of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, John Holden said that the claim was ridiculous and that people should start to take a bit more responsibility for themselves instead of looking around for someone to blame. He pointed out that there were hazards everywhere in life and that people should really try to learn how to deal with them.
