Fund raiser organised for missing Madeleine McCann

January 27, 2010

A fund-raising dinner has been organised by the parents of Madeleine McCann in order to mark the 1,000 days since she first went missing. The evening will cost guests £150-per-head and will feature an auction and a raffle. The event is to take place in west London at Sir Richard Branson’s Kensington Roof Gardens. 180 invites have been sent out and it is expected that amongst the supporters will be Brian Kennedy, the couple’s long term millionaire backer as well as Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling.

Supporters of the McCanns around the world will also be launching 1,000 illuminated lanterns into the sky to mark the youngster’s disappearance. As well as in the U.K. paper lanterns will be sent up in the U.S. and Portugal where she disappeared. Proceeds from the dinner will be split between the fund set up by the McCanns to continue the search for their daughter and the charities Missing Children Europe and Missing People. Although spokesman for the McCann family, Clarence Mitchell says that there is still £500,000 in the Madeleine Fund donations have started to fall off. Mitchell said that even if the money runs out the McCanns have no intention of giving up the search for their daughter.

Kate and Gerry McCann have been forced once again to listen to accusations that they covered up the death of their daughter as the Portuguese author of a book which claims to be the truth about what happened takes his case through the courts to get an initial ban on its publication lifted.
