Flight perks to be taken away from British Airways cabin crew who vote to strike
January 25, 2010
Cabin crew at British Airways have been given one more thing to think about as they vote on whether or not to strike around Easter. A letter has been sent out by Bill Francis the head of the airline’s cabin crew warning that anyone who does opt for strike action will lose their much loved travel privileges. At the moment staff are offered the chance of flying with the airline for 90 percent off the price of a normal ticket whenever there are free seats available. The option is also available to a select group of family and friends. As well as the discounted tickets it is traditional for those who have been wit the airline for five years to be offered free tickets to anywhere British Airways flies to. The latest threat follows Willie Walsh’s offer to other members of the BA workforce of extra training so that they can take over the duties of any cabin crew who decide to walk out. He maintains that he will not be bullied by Unite and will do everything in his power to ensure that passengers do not have their travel plans disrupted.
The new strike threat follows the proposed twelve day strike at Christmas. Industrial action was narrowly avoided when the High Court ruled that the voting process by Unite was flawed and therefore unlawful. If a new strike does go ahead then Unite say that it will not be during the Easter holidays so that those planning to get away will not be disrupted.
