England fans forced to dig deep to attend 2010 World Cup
December 7, 2009
England may well have been drawn in the easiest group for the first matches of the World Cup but those wishing to witness what should be easy victories over the U.S., Slovenia and Algeria are in for a bit of a shock if travel plans have not already been firmly nailed down. As well as only having a one in five chance of getting their hands on a ticket before departing to South Africa in 2010, those who have not booked air travel may find themselves having to settle for a television screen at home.
Those who wish to hop on a British Airways flight a couple of days before the event’s kick off will find themselves paying over £3,000 for the club-class seats which are the only option left. Earlier this year, South African Airways were offering prices to the World Cup at around £500 return. However customers will now be lucky to see any change from £1,500.
For those who manage to sort out a flight there are some surprises waiting at the other end. Hiring a car at the airport was around £25 per day earlier in the year. However if there are any vehicles still available they are being rented out now at a shocking £110 per day. And then customers will need to seek out the few remaining hotel rooms. If they are lucky enough to do so then they should steel themselves for the fact that they will be at over ten times their usual prices.
