Drinkaware introduces new interactive drink calculators for Christmas
December 11, 2009
New research conducted by alcohol charity Drinkaware suggests that many Brits will drink more than they intend to over the festive season. Around half of those polled admitted that it was likely that at some point they would imbibe more than is recommended by daily health guidelines. The research estimates that around one in three adults will attend at least three parties over Christmas and nearly all said that they intend to drink alcohol when doing so.
Chris Sorek from Drinkaware said that Christmas was always a time for getting together with family and friends and celebrating with a drink. He went on to say that it may well be the time for parties but that people should still keep an eye on how much alcohol they are putting into their system. With this in mind the charity has unveiled their new system of gauging the countries drinking habits. A large touch-screen calculator has been erected in Covent Garden in London which allows people to enter the amount of drinks they have had in the past twenty-four hours. The calculator, which is linked directly to the Drinkaware website, will then provide information on unit intake, calorie intake and compare the amount drunk with the rest of the U.K. Similar systems are due to be provided in Birmingham, Leeds and Glasgow in what is probably the largest interactive survey of the nation’s drinking habits ever undertaken.
Drinkaware estimate that over Christmas the British population will consume more than 600 million units of alcohol.
