Dating site rejects members who put on weight

January 5, 2010

Managers of a dating website have been forced to make some of its members reapply because they put on too much weight over the festive period. BeautifulPeople.com is an exclusive dating site where those who wish to join have to pass strict scrutiny to gain membership. 5,000 members were asked to re-submit an application to retain their membership after posting up pictures which showed that they might have enjoyed indulging themselves a little too much over Christmas.

Greg Hodge, managing director of BeautifulPeople.com said that it was not a management decision to kick fat people off the website but rather the democratic decision of the sites members. He said that people who join the site with a slim physique were expected to take care of themselves and if they pile on the pounds should not be surprised if they are asked to reapply. He pointed out that being fat did not necessarily bar you from membership but that being large did not suit everyone.

Robert Hinze who founded the site said that standards of attractiveness had to be maintained and that allowing fat people to remain on the site was counter to the original concept of BeautifulPeople.com. He said that although it was bad for them to lose customers it was necessary to cull people who had let themselves go in order to maintain the business model.

Of the 5,000 members who were asked to reapply only a few hundred were voted beautiful enough to return by the rest of the BeautifulPeople.com community.
