Christmas day at Warwick Castle will go to highest bidder

December 14, 2009

Those who are still pondering a venue for Christmas day can go on eBay and bid for Warwick Castle. On the only day that the castle is closed to the public the highest bidder will be treated to a champagne breakfast, presents around a twenty-five foot tall Christmas tree and a seven course dinner with up to thirty guests. Opening bids are set at a minimum of £25,000 but the winning bid is expected to be much higher.

The day will be rounded off by a visit from Father Christmas as well as a fireworks display after which guests will be chauffeured to a nearby hotel. Warwick Castle’s general manager, Sue Kemp describes the opportunity to have Christmas at the castle as the ultimate event. She said that she was looking forward to handing over the keys to the first person to host Christmas at the castle since the Earl of Warwick sold it in 1978.

One eBay correspondent has already inquired as to whether the dungeons will be open for his mother-in-law. A castle representative replied to the query by saying that as well as the dungeons the bear-pit and gaol would also be available if required.

The proceeds from the winning bid will be given to the Merlin Entertainment Group which is a charity that has been set up to provide children with disabilities and serious illnesses with magical experiences. Those who spend that day at the castle can take advantage of a team of servants who will provide them with anything they require, within reason.
