Chris Hollins is Strictly champion
December 21, 2009
Chris Hollins has seized the glitterball trophy from bookies favourite Ricky Whittle in an energetic series final for Strictly Come Dancing. The BBC sports presenter thanked his professional dance partner Ola Jordan for believing in him throughout the competition as she smiled through tears of joy. 38-year-old Hollins said that after he got home from celebrating his win with friends and a few drinks he just could not stop staring at his trophy. He has also said that he has no plans to take up dancing professionally so will probably stick to the job he already has.
Ricky Whittle was visibly upset at not scooping the top prize he thought was his for the taking. However he said that his partner Natalie Lowe had been incredible and that his time on the show had been the best of his life. Both pairs performed four dances and appeared to be putting everything they had into those performances. The efforts were not lost on the judges who used such terms as ‘jaw-dropping’ to describe the dancing. After one dance Hollins ended up on the judges table and was told that the Chippendales might want to have a word with him. Whittle was just as impressive with his lifts and at one point managed to spin partner Natalie around his shoulders without using his hands.
Whittle has since admitted that he has been suffering from a hernia which meant that he was in agony for most his time on the show. He said that he had kept it a secret because he did not want to be dropped from the competition or get sympathy votes from the show’s audience.
