Bulgarian admits to finding Stephen Gately’s body
October 13, 2009
The details of what exactly happened during the hours that led up to Stephen Gately’s death at his luxury holiday apartment in Majorca at the weekend are still sketchy. However Georgi Dochev, the Bulgarian who accompanied Gately and his partner home on Saturday morning, has admitted that he was the first to discover the body.
Mr. Dochev said that he found Gately’s body and that it was very cold. He went on to say that the experience has left him feeling devastated and unable to sleep. Mr. Dochev said that he had been cooperating with the police but declined to elaborate on what had been going on before Gately’s body was discovered. Unconfirmed reports are that Gately’s civil partner Andrew Cowles had spent the night with Mr. Dochev whilst Gately slept on the sofa. Mr. Dochev has refused to comment saying that he needs to speak to Mr. Cowles first.
Cowles is said to be inconsolable and is apparently blaming himself for the singer’s death. A source says that he keeps telling the other members of Boyzone, who flew to Majorca at the weekend, that there must have been something he could have done. Everyone is said to be in a state of shock.
