Brittany Murphy’s husband denies drug use rumours
January 29, 2010
Brittany Murphy’s husband has spoken out for the first time about the premature death of his wife. He said that he wanted to make sure that people understood that Murphy’s death had absolutely nothing to do with drugs. Speculation that Murphy had a problem with cocaine has been rife because of her weight loss and apparent erratic behaviour on set. Screenwriter and director Simon Monjack has insisted that Murphy never used any illegal drugs and was in fact very anti-drugs.
The idea that Murphy might have been using cocaine before she died of a heart attack in the shower at the home she shared with Monjack just before Christmas was fueled by the fact that her husband had initially asked for an autopsy not to be performed on his wife. He has denied that there was anything sinister behind the request and said that he just didn’t want his wife to go under the coroner’s knife. He said that the actress died in his arms as he desperately tried to resuscitate her and that he hoped no one would ever have to experience a similar situation.
Monjack has also said that he was an unlikely match for the starlet. He said that she was always destined to marry a Hollywood heartthrob, not a slightly scruffy, overweight Englishman. He said that when Murphy died he lost the love of his life and anyone who thought that he behaved oddly after her death had to realise that he was living through a very surreal nightmare.
