Brits not overly concerned by swine flu

August 27, 2009

The results of a pan-European survey were released this week by internet media company Travelzoo. The purpose of the survey which was conducted last week was to find out how swine flu is affecting European attitudes to travel.

10,582 travelers were questioned in twenty-four regions across France, Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom.

The results showed that the Spanish were most likely to change travel plans because of swine flu with 21% saying that they intended to make other arrangements. Next most concerned were the Germans with 15%, then the French with 14% and finally the British with only 7% of those polled saying they would change plans because of the virus.

The least concerned Brits live in the North West where only 5% said they were concerned about swine flu. Most likely to change their travel plans were the Northern Irish with 12.5% saying they were worried.  In London and the South East 8% of those who answered the poll said they would change their travel plans.

U.K. spokesman for Travelzoo, Stephen Dunk said: “A number of surveys have revealed that Britons will not give up their holiday or travel plans, despite the risk of swine flu, but this is the first to show just how important that aspect of our life is, compared to other Europeans. The survey results correlate strongly with data we have about demand for travel deals abroad.”
