Boris Johnson chases off gang of oiks
November 4, 2009
Franny Armstrong the climate activist, founder of the 10:10 campaign and director of Age of Stupid a film about the effects of climate change has heralded London Mayor, Boris Johnson her knight on a shining bicycle. The film maker and activist was walking home through the streets of Camden in North London when she found herself surprised by a group of girls who surrounded her and pushed her up against a parked car. Ms. Armstrong said that she was sending a text message on her mobile phone at the time and didn’t notice the girls until she was surrounded. One of the girls was apparently carrying an iron bar.
Noticing a man on a bicycle cycling past Ms. Armstrong called out for help. The man stopped his bike and asked what the girls thought they were up to. He then picked up the iron bar and proceeded to cycle after the group of girls calling them oiks according to Ms. Armstrong. She said that her rescuer, who also has a day job running the country’s capital, returned and insisted on walking her home to make sure she made it safely.
Ms Armstrong admitted that the whole incident had been frightening and that she was extremely grateful for the mayor’s intervention. She also pointed out that although she wasn’t a supporter of many of Boris Johnson’s policies and that she had in fact voted for Ken Livingstone in the last elections, she did think that Boris would be a bit more use if you found yourself in a spot of bother down a dark alley than Mr. Livingstone.
