Apple iPhone and iPad Updates Announced

April 9, 2010

Apple announced on Thursday that they will be offering updates for the iPhone and iPad, which will allow them to do what their rivals already do – multitask. This is something that iPhone owners have wanted for a long time. Steve Jobs, the chief executive of Apple, said that even though they didn’t offer this first, they will do it the best.

These changes will be available on the iPhone this summer and on the iPad this fall. Users will be able to use multiple applications at once, whereas they can only use one at a time right now – ending one app before starting another – even though the iPhone currently offers limited multitasking.

When the new OS4 update is available, all of this will change. Jobs says that how owners use their devices will really change, as they will get to switch between apps seamlessly. He even demonstrated the new update by pulling up the main menu of the iPhone while playing a game.

So what took them so long to finally add this feature? Jobs says that it’s because they didn’t want multitasking to drain the devices’ batteries or reduce their performance.

The new update, which is slated to include many features, will be available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. However, some of the features, like the multitasking, will only be available for the newest device versions. This means that that it will only work on the iPhone 3GS and the newest iPod Touch version that was released last year.
